My Story
Parent
As the parent of two children who are being educated in the school system and the husband of a teacher, I know the challenges and opportunities parents face in balancing the responsibilities of raising and providing for a family.
Having grown up in Winston-Salem public housing in a single parent home, I know that I would not have achieved the measure of success that I have, had it not been for teachers, mentors and coaches. They were the ones who bridged the gap between me and the educational process by showing my mother how to be involved in my education. I strongly desire to “pay it forward” by creating programs to encourage both parent and community leaders to become involved in our educational system.
Educator
After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Intermediate Education from Winston-Salem State University, I became a teacher within the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System for 14 years, during which time I earned a Master’s in Education at Wake Forest University. I have taught 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th grades, and served as a curriculum coordinator. I held the distinction of being recognized as Teacher of the Year at both Paisley and Kernersville Middle Schools, and was a finalist for Forsyth County Teacher of the Year. From my own experience, I know first-hand the challenges teachers face on a daily basis.

Your Voice
My desire in running for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School Board is to make a positive difference in the educational opportunities that all of our children have. As a parent and former teacher, I want to be your voice and represent your concerns. I am asking for your vote on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Together, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
